A Legendary Music Phone

Companies today are more likely to take over another company instead of teaming up with it. One team, Sony-Erickson and Walkman, will change this mind set with the success of their latest product line, a series of Walkman Cell phones. These phones combine MP3 players with full cell phone capabilities. Two more companies have joined this mobile phone task force - Carphone Warehouse and Def Jam Records. Def Jam Videos and MP3s from artists like Ludacris, Janet Jackson and Rihanna come pre-installed in some phone models. The king of the Walkman Cell Phone line is the W950i. This phone has a 240 x 320 pixel touch screen. It has the following dimensions: 4.2″ x 2.1″ x 0.6″ and weighs 4 ounces.

w950i

According to Carphone Warehouse’s George Dymond, downloaded music is one of the most popular phone activities. He further explains. “Our customers regularly tell us just how much they love music. Our Mobile Life research reveals that nearly 40 per cent of people download and listen to music on their mobiles rising to well over half of young people.” The feature loaded W950i allows Sony-Erickson and Walkman to tap into this profitable market.

The W950i includes such standard Walkman features like MegaBass, easy-to-use controls and FM radio. One of the phone’s best music features is Disc2Phone software. With it you can easily transfer CD tracks into your W950i. It has a storage capacity of 4 GB. Pre-installed music content reduces your available file storage. Another awesome feature is Track ID. Record a few seconds of a song and receive artist, song name and album information on your phone within seconds. The W950i also includes many advanced phone features. It supports both Bluetooth and USB 2.0 standards. It receives E-mail as easily as a computer does and can quickly connect to WiFi spots. You can even download Audible books into your phone.

The W950i costs $449.99 refurbished. It is an excellent phone for serious music lovers. It is also Eco-Friendly since you are using one device to take the role of two - phone and MP3 player. Outstanding phone and walkman features make the W950i a good choice for your next phone upgrade.

The Pearl is a True Gem!!

The newest BlackBerry is the Pearl, and it is a gem of a phone!

blackberry-pearl

New users are showing some serious addictions to their phones. When released to some wireless store managers, they became the newest “one to sell” on the boards. From the thinner body to the fully functioning blackberry technology, it quickly becomes the necessary gadget to have in the pocket at all times.

The most addicting feature for most is the ability to quickly check email without needing a laptop. It has the built in camera that is becoming standard, but the specific benefit to the Pearl is that it can immediately email pictures rather than being charged for minutes. There is even a fully functioning flash to make it possible to take pictures in low lighting. There is also the music player function, but it doesn’t quite rival the iPod nano.

The GPS capabilities allow users to find any address in the country, and either zoom in on a map, or get navigated directions from a different place. It can do the typical verbal directions, or just as a turn-by-turn calculation.

High speed data functioning is what truly sets this phone apart from all the others. Checking email takes seconds, and searching the internet is faster than one could imagine for such as small device. Users can find a business address while waiting for the bus, or read the newspaper while they are on their lunch break. It opens the world of the internet into the palm of your hand, allowing you to look up information on Wikipedia while wining and dining.

The small device leads users with larger hands wondering if they need to speak louder for the other person to hear them. Yet once they begin speaking, the call comes through loud and clear. The buttons are easy to use, and once you master it, so is the SureType keyboard. Even users with thick fingers find the scrolling mouse button a godsend.

Slide this little puppy into your pocket and talk on the Bluetooth too. It will fit in a shirt pocket or a trouser pocket with room to spare. The bright, wide screen is easy to read, and the combination of style and ease make this the real “must have” gadget for all cell phone users.

New Folding Cell Phone

Polymer Vision in the Netherlands has combined e-reading and cellular phones to create the “Readius.”

Readius

Take the phone out of a pocket, unfold the screen, and have a 5 inch display to check email or news websites. Then simply fold it up and put it back in a pocket. Then when it is break time, take it out and read an ebook while relaxing.

This gadget has not yet been released, but has been reported that it is in production. It will be released in the middle of 2008. Competition will be fierce with the Apple iPhone, and the Amazon’s Kindle book reader already having a stake in the market.

The advantage that the Readius has over its competition is the long life battery that will compare to the ebook readers, as well as a large display, yet the size and weight of a cellular device. The price for it will likely end up in the neighborhood of a high-end cellular phone, making it attainable by many.

Internet connection with the Readius will use high data speeds on the current mobile networks. This will allow more competition for the iPhone by allowing owners to boost data usage. Any data created by the user within their PC can be pushed to the device each time it is updated, so the latest podcasts and blog feeds will be available immediately.

The ease of use will possibly appeal to much greater audience than the 50 button versions of devices. The mere 8 buttons used on the Readius simplify the operation, and appeal to a wider range of consumers.

The technology promises to meet standards of current mobile phones, as well as ebook readers. The screen that is the size of two business cards can be folded or unfolded as needed. The option for this gadget to provide two major functions in one gives it a clear edge over the competition in both categories. That advantage will only hold, though, if the quality truly does meet the standards of the current available devices. As seen with the introduction of MP3 players in cellular phones, the quality is what makes the trend. It will remain to be seen if this product has the ability to do the same.

It looks like a high-tech rotary phone (resembling the B&O Serene) and adds a distinct class to the G108. This is a good-looking gadget. Even if it did not have great features it will sell very well on just its appearance alone. Add the solid features and you have a definite winner.

What would a secret agent be without his ultra-secret digital camera? The G108 includes a 1.3 megapixel camera. Before you take pictures of all those scenic locations, you will need to purchase a memory card to increase the G108’s limited 0.5 MB onboard memory. You can easily add your card to the G108’s expansion slot. This phone-watch includes a speaker phone and multimedia player. What’s the use of going on a top-secret vacation assignment without your theme music?

The Cool G108 is designed to take its place on the world stage. It supports quadband GPRS and GSM. This phone watch has USB 2.0 and Bluetooth connectivity. Pricing is not currently available for the Cool G108. It is an awesome digital watch phone combination. If priced correctly, the G108 could sell out when it hits the European and American markets. Thousands and maybe millions of gadget lovers with get to be either Dick Tracey or James Bond.

Finally a Degradable Cell Phone

Environmentally friendly devices are one of the hottest markets in technology sectors today. Every time we upgrade an existing gadget, like a cell phone or computer, we need to efficiently dispose of our older model. An average cell phone user will change their handset every 18 months. Only 10% of the one billion handsets produced yearly are recycled. Gert-Jan van Breugel, from the Netherlands, latest gadget is the Bamboo Phone. If it achieves mass distribution, it will be a huge boost to the environment.

degradable-mobile

Van Breugel’s phone is degradable. Remove the antenna, battery and print board and the remaining phone elements can be placed on a compost pile. The case will completely disintegrate in a few weeks. Bamboo seeds are inside the case. As these grow, they will draw some of their nutrients from your old cell phone case. A bamboo plant will grow from you case in a couple of months. This is phenomenally environmentally friendly.

degradable-mobile-bamboo

If this was Van Breugel’s only environmentally friendly feature, the Bamboo would be an impressive device. He includes two more equally impressive features. Unlike conventional mobile phones, the Bamboo Phone is made out of two materials. The first material is bio-plastic which is made out renewable material like corn. Bamboo is the other core element of the Bamboo Phone. Since bamboo is such a fast-growing plant, it is ideal to be used in an environmentally friendly cell phone.

Recharging conventional cell phones also negatively impacts the environment. Most consumers leave their cell phone chargers plugged in after the phone has been fully charged. This small electrical waste becomes a huge problem when multiplied by the number of cell phone users worldwide. The Bamboo Phone does not use batteries. It comes with a cranking charger. Wind it for 3 minutes before each call. Once again, this is the hi-tech returning to the old days of when landline phones needed to be cranked before a call could be made.

Van Breugel’s Bamboo Phone is an amazing device. Its three core features make it one of the most environmentally friendly gadgets of the year. Hopefully Van Breugel will get this phone in mass production before the end of the year.

A Multimedia Typhoon

Helio’s latest gadget is Ocean. Calling it a cell phone would be to grossly mislabel all of the powerful features Helio has packed within it. Ocean is a portable communication center that provides 5.1 hours of cell talk time. Its dimensions are 4.33″ x 2.20″ x .86″ and weighs 5.61 ounces. Ocean features include 2.0 MegaPixel Digital Camera, Bluetooth compatible, Video Camera, MP3 player and Photo caller ID. Ocean’s features a 2.4 inch QVGA touch screen display at 240 x 320 resolution.

helio

David Talbot in Soul of the Machine, describes Helio’s Ocean unique design. “Jun’s solution: give the device not two orientations but three. The first orientation, of course, is vertical–for the phone. The second, with the QWERTY keyboard open, is horizontal; in this configuration, the d-pad is on the right, for scrolling through messages. The Ocean’s software changes the orientation of the displayed material depending on which slider is pulled out. But Jun asked game manufacturers to give Helio versions of their software that essentially played upside down. Flip the device 180 degrees, keeping both sliders closed, and the game is now playing right-side up–with the datapad on the left. “That was a nice move on his part, so it doesn’t undermine the gaming experience.”

Ocean’s best feature is its E-mail mastery. It is easy to mange multiple accounts with Helio’s communication device. Ocean has a message dashboard that easily accesses Yahoo Messenger and E-mail, AOL Messenger and E-mail, Gmail, Hotmail, Windows Live Messenger and E-mail, Helio E-mail and Earthlink E-mail. Ocean also supports push mail. It can receive from MSN Hotmail, Yahoo and AOL. Ocean can even wirelessly synchronize with Microsoft Outlook. This is your complete E-mail handling device.

Helio’s Ocean also masters multiple contact lists. It synchronizes AOL, Yahoo and Helio Mail address books. Begin typing the person you want to contact and Ocean searches through all three address books to find his address. It will also let you know if he is currently logged into a supported Messenger account. (Yahoo, AOL, or Windows Live)

Helio’s Ocean sells for $199. It is a powerful communication device that is a must have for road warriors. With Ocean, you wield a power communication device in a compact size.

Shift Into Ultra Light

HTC announced their plans for their latest gadget, a little more than a year ago. The HTCX9000 Shift CDMA is a 800 MHz ultra mobile PC with 1 GB of memory. With dimensions of 8.2 x 5.1 x 1 inches and a weight of 1.8 pounds, HTC’s latest gadget is definitely ultra compact. Shift includes HTC SnapVUE software, a streamlined version of Windows Mobile. This allows you to quickly gain access to contacts, calendar and E-mail. This is an excellent feature for an ultra light PC to have. Windows Vista is also included if you need to use more powerful applications.

HTCX9000 Shift CDMA

The HTCX9000 does not come with a long list of features. This UMPC central feature is a sliding mini-keyboard. HTC is to be commended for its quality construction of the Shift. The mini-keyboard moves smoothly but securely when you turn the UMPC into a laptop. The reduced keyboard means that you probably won’t write your next novel on it, but it is large enough that you can type and edit most documents. Function Keys 1thru10 are combined with the number keys and require combination keyboarding to use. F11 and F12 have been completely removed from the HTCX9000 Shift. The keyboard also lacks back lighting. You will need to have a light source nearby for late night keyboarding.

HTCX9000 Shift CDMA

HTCX9000 Shift’s touchscreen can easily rotate into your designed position. HTC includes a one-button resolution change - from 1024 x 600 down to 800 x 480. Shift also features speakers, a tiny trackpad, SD expansion slot, webcam 40 GB hard drive and fingerprint scanner. It is WiFi and Bluetooth compatible. You can receive E-mail messages instantly due to Microsoft’s Direct Push.

The HTCX9000 will sell for $1499. It is only available for pre-ordering now. With the different options available today, the HTCX9000 Shift seems to be lacking. If portability is more important to you than processing power, the Shift could be the UMPC for you. Its lightweight would meet the needs for a business traveler with modest computing needs. Windows Vista can run on the Shift, but it runs slowly. Most consumers would be better off shifting to another company and spending t$1500 on a slightly heavier but more powerful laptop.

Built-in Bluetooth

Never lose your blue tooth again with this cellular phone with the blue tooth that is attached.

mooon+phone

Etiquette requires business people and busy people alike to remove the blue tooth ear piece when they are not actually talking on the device. This allows other people to know whether or not they can speak to someone. No one would normally begin a conversation or ask a question of someone that is on the phone. Yet when people have a blue tooth earpiece, it is impossible to tell if they are in the midst of a phone call or are available to talk.

The Mooon+Phone is a great solution. Most of the time, people leave their blue tooth in their ear so that they don’t lose it. This phone has a blue tooth that is attached to the bottom. This makes it so much simpler to remove it when it is not in use.

Not only does this phone solve the problem of losing the blue tooth headset, but it also comes with sleek, silver accents, and a huge TOUCHSCREEN. The phone does all the typical features , a clip on the back, a digital camera, etc. Then it gives the user total freedom to choose whether to use the blue tooth or the phone, keep the headset charged at all times without a separate cord and adapter, and there is no question of compatibility between the earpiece and the touch screen phone that the user wants.

The only small possible negative to this phone is that the ear piece does get its charge from the phone battery. This means that while it is plugged into the phone and not in use, it is drawing power away from the phone battery. This could end up depleting the battery power more quickly than the typical phone. Yet with all the other gadgets available to do quick phone charges, and the common accessory of the car charger being so inexpensive, it does not appear to be a huge drawback.

This looks like it will become the newest “must-have” in the techie world. One can hardly imagine what they will come up with next!

Building the Perfect Cell Phone Game

Cell phones are awesome communication devices. Their games, however, fell into three categories - bad or laughable, or both. Zelfi’s latest product, Mechanics, takes cell phone games to a new level. Some of the most popular games, regardless of platform, have players mindless blast, smash or otherwise destroy wave after wave of opponents. Mechanics breaks this mode as well. You need to guide your team of mechanics through 25 levels in this side scrolling game. Game play alternates between quick reflexes to planning and coordination. This combination makes Mechanics an exciting game.

Mechanics-cellphone-game

Quick Reflex games are great for relieving frustration and winding down after a hard day’s work. Your brain begins to shut off after a couple of minutes of this and your fingers and thumbs become a flurry of activity. Physical discomfort limits the fun factor. On the other hand, planning and coordination games allow your brain to come fully alive sharping your analytical abilities to figure out how to lead your mechanics through the obstacles. Too much of this can begin to feel like “working” and the fun factor decreases. Zelfi’s Mechanics seeks to balance the two play styles.

Mechanics requires you to constantly interact with the game environment. Each new game level requires you to become familiar with a new transportation system. Different sequential button pushes are required to activate the transport mechanism. Your characters can also find objects and tools that help them navigate hazards like bombs, water, dead falls and the like. Mini-Games add even more variety to Mechanics.

Zelfi’s Mechanics is a well-designed game guaranteed to give you hours of diversion. While playing, you have the added benefit of refining your logic skills and improving your hand to eye coordination. Mechanics’ only drawback is that it is played on a cell phone screen. Since these screens can be significantly smaller than the Game Boy or Play Station Portable, game play can strain your eyes. It would be great if some third-party company would develop screen magnifiers for various cell phone models. It would attract more people to play games on their cell phones. This ensures that games like Zelfi’s Mechanics get the game play they deserve.

iPhone out of Juice? Let it Catch Some Rays

Wildcharge pad

A Scottsdale, Arizona based firm makes recharging all of your devices at once - incredibly easy. The company is Wildcharge and their device bears the same name. Wildcharge is a small thin magnetic pad. Lay all of your gadgets on the pad and they will charge as quickly as if they were connected to a wall outlet. Mitch Randall and Izhar Matzkevich are the brains behind the device. The pair has big plans for Wildcharge. A larger pad is about to be released to charge laptops. Also, a flip-top Wildcharge pad is being developed for vehicles. Randall ad Matzkevich is even in conversation with a luxury car manufacturer to have their Wildcharge be an in-dashboard installation. Talks are also being held with specialty retailers to distribute the Wildcharge line.

Randall and Matzkevich believe that recharging your devices should be simple. Consumers need to purchase an adaptor for their gadget that allows it to receive power from the pad. The connector is either a sticker (connects with the device’s battery) or a gel wrap. Diminutive charge connectors are implanted in the gel wrap. Attach the adaptor, whether gel wrap or sticker, to the device. Wildcharge adaptors currently support RAZRs, Blackberries and iPhones. Within a month, a new product with universal adaptors will be launched for Wildcharge. There will be an adaptor to fit any electronic gadget on the market today. After the gadget has an adaptor attached it, the consumer can simply lay the device onto the Wildcharge pad. You don’t need to worry about how the device is placed - upside down, right side up, on its side - power is transferred from the pad to the adapter. A closed electrical circuit is created between the adaptor and the pad. The Wildcharge charging method removes threats from harmful radiation or magnetic fields.

Wildcharge has won an amazing number of awards. Its most recent award, Best of Innovation Award, came from the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show. The company has also won awards from Entrepreneur and Time Magazines. Recently Intel displayed a Wildcharge device in a laptop case. This will be a company to watch in 2008. Wildcharge could easily become the next tech-gadget household name.

Sidekick Slide - Is it Hip or a Dud?

T-Mobile latest gadget is designed for specific population groups - teenagers, professional party girls and Hollywood starlets. The Sidekick Slide, a.k.a. the Hiptop Slide, is a unique communication device. It is named the Slide because the LCD slides up to reveal a QWERTY keypad. This T-mobile gadget takes feature-packed to a whole new level.

The Sidekick Slide is first and foremost a cell phone. T-mobile has all of the standard features - address book, calendar, calculator and speaker phone. T-mobile also includes some interesting if not innovative features like a Currency Converter, music player, SD Memory slot, and picture caller ID. The Sidekick Slide is also a Quad-base GSM phone - this allows you talk anywhere in the world that is supported by all-GSM T-mobile network.
Besides being a Cell Phone, the Sidekick Slide can perform many other functions. You can also send and receive e-mail and send and receive messages from MSN, AOL, ICQ and Yahoo Instant Messenger. The Slide includes 1.3 Mexapixel camera. This is far weaker than any of the digital cameras on the market today but it is good enough for picture messaging, quick snapshots and updating your Myspace page. You have the option of printing or enlarging your photos.

sidekick-slide.jpg

Like most cell phones, the Sidekick Slide allows you to surf the web on its tiny screen. While unsuitable for any type of extended web session, the internet connection allows you to add games, ringtones and wallpaper to the Sidekick Slide. Like most services, T-mobile includes many ringtones, wallpaper and game options. There are far more cost effective options you can find on your PC and then send them to your phone number.
The Sidekick Slide is Bluetooth compatible. This is an excellent feature because with the wireless data transfer capacity you can connect with a computer or headset. Since the Sidekick is awkward to hold for long phone conversations, a hands free option is a must.

T-Mobile’s Sidekick Slide is an interesting device. If you want a more versatile phone, the Slide is about as versatile as they get. The Slide leaves me cold. While being feature packed, it does not major in the features that I want most in a phone. If you want a very hi-tech pager, the Sidekick Slide is for you. If not, choose from the multitude of cell phones in the market today.

LINC - The Ultimate Recyclable Phone

Cell phones can be some of the most damaging gadgets for the environment. The Greener Grass’ Concept Phone - LINC is one of the most environmental friendly gadgets ever conceived. LINC comes with the standard cell phone features. Although primarily a touch screen smart phone, LINC is also a media player, web browser, and GPS. LINC includes both Bluetooth and wifi capacity and access to downloadable content. However, instead of buying a phone, consumers purchase LINC as a service. After about a year, the consumer receives a new LINC phone in the mail with the next generation of hardware installed. The old LINC phone wirelessly transfers the digital account into the new LINC phone.

LINC

The Greener Grass requests that the consumer packs up the old LINC and ship it to a regional manufacturing facility. Greener Grass informs the consumer how their old phone will be recycled. Like most phones, LINC contains valuable material like aluminum, glass and electronic components that the manufacturer can re-use. Unlike other outdated cell phones which gather dust on a desk or in a glove compartment, the LINC phone becomes part of future generations of LINC phones.

The Greener Grass designed the LINC phone for automated disassembly. A directed radiant heat beam strikes the LINC’s internal memory metal latch, releasing the assembly. In one step, LINC has disassembled into a few simple components, glass, aluminum and its circuit flex. Neither the glass nor aluminum contains paints or adhesives. They can be recycled to pure grade material for immediate reuse. All of the electronics necessary for the LINC, is contained on the flexible circuit. Although it’s full of hazardous material, the flexible circuit can receive proper disposal. Many of the chip sets can be easily removed and reused. Even outdated parts like the graphic card, can be reused in devices like portable gaming systems.

Green Grass has thoroughly planned out how to make LINC - the ultimate recyclable phone. The LINC service is both awe-inspiring and innovative. Greener Grass provides consumers LINC as a service and lets them know that by purchasing this service they are taking a huge role in protecting the environment. Gadget Lovers and Environmental Activists will find a common bound when the LINC service becomes available.

There is a small power switch, so you can turn the battery pack on and off so it won’t de-charge as quick when you’re carrying it around.

The real beauty of the Mobile Survival Kit is that it can serve as a secondary battery for gadgets.
