24 Karat Gold Plated MacBook Pro

24 Karat Gold Plated MacBook Pro
24 Karat Gold Plated MacBook Pro

Everything that is Mac tends to amaze! As a true fan of all that’s Mac, I can’t skip the celebration of something new about it. The 24 Karat Gold Plated MacBook Pro is not another upgrading of hardware, and it isn’t even related to Apple! Let’s get into it for a bit… well, the computer (the very inside we put worth in) is actually a 2.2 or 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 802.11n Wi-Fi, 2GB of RAM and a 160GB internal drive. The big deal about it is that it is gold plated allover – keyboard, housing, etc., and optionally can include the diamond-encrusted Apple’s emblem.

It probably doesn’t make sense for those who take MacBook as an irreplaceable work tool. It seems that this glamorous look of the lap top can distract attention from what you are actually doing on it.

This gold-plated MacBook is actually the idea of Computer Choppers. Steve Jobs would definitely like the metamorphosis of MacBook, Computer Choppers can perform. You can benefit from two versions: 1) a 24-karat gold-and-diamond version, with the diamonds filling the Apple logo, or 2) the plain gold version. The diamond version has approximately 2 karat total weight in diamonds, which might make a gorgeous wedding ring.

Computer Choppers promises to turn your MacBook into a gold brick within 2-4 weeks. It’ll cost you $ 1,200-$ 1,500, some even speak about sums such as $ 6,000 and $ 9,000.

The customized MacPro comes with a one-year warranty (hardware, plating, and custom painted keyboard/track pad). The kit also includes extra case feet, a microfiber cleaning kit, a Radtech Sleevz and screen protector.

The only thing I’m worried about is that this shiny, big gold brick can attract undesired glances, and finally can be stolen. What I’m gonna do then?

PS. The ‘predictors’ say that the next project of Computer Choppers will probably be a 24-inch aluminum iMac.

Need more space on the screen? Add this 4.3 inch one on

I’m sure all of you know that two is better than one, and that applies with the monitor for your computer. Of course, most of the true geeks out there have two monitors of equal size. However, for those who just want a tiny little screen for checking on an application or two, this USB Bus-powered LCD is for you.

A company called Century Japan has created a 4.3 inch WVGA display that is not only practical, but it is environmentally friendly. You see, this display is powered by the USB bus itself and will not pollute the planet as well as other tech devices are prone to do.

So what good is an extra screen, especially one so tiny? Well, how about getting some extra real estate on your desktop or laptop? I mean, I have three applications going on my laptop at any given time. Usually it is an Internet Explorer program on the top, a word processing program in the lower left hand corner, and some sort of video program going in the lower right hand corner.

If someone tries to Instant Message me, I always have to push that pesky new window out of the way. Now I can just put it on the 4.3 inch USB screen. In fact, if I want even more real estate on my screen, I can add up to seven of these mini-screens to my computer. Of course, I will need some sort of adaptor for all these USB ports.

By the way, this tiny screen is compatible with not just PCs, but they can be attached to Macs. If you want this extra space, feel free to shell out $200 for this PC accessory.

Fashion Watch by Zviad Tsikolia

Fashion Watch by Zviad Tsikolia

An everlasting question penetrates my mind: Why people continue to design watches, when there are a lot of devices to feature this function?! Then the answer came: It is about classics, tradition, and lifestyle.

Watches have come a long way throughout the history and they have gained a specific signification – some kind of hidden meaning. Zviad Tsikolia, a well known watch designer has probably thought about this when conceived the idea of this Concept Fashion Watch.

The way it functions is totally amazing! Fashion Watch is actually made of modern materials, featuring an electronic date and time indicators. A couple of characteristic circles perform the role of hands. The electronic date indicator can be displayed virtually anywhere on the face of the watch.

Being made from modern materials, the watch still works using already known technologies.

It is interesting that the winding mechanism is mounted on the upper zone of the Fashion Watch. It is very convenient because it doesn’t leave any trace on your wrist as watches usually do.

I always wondered how far watch designers can go to create the watch of the future. Now I know for sure that there are no limits for new ideas even when it is about such a field as wrist watch design.

Many of my friends are convinced that Fashion Watch having a trendy look, is still rather uncomfortable to use. Well, I guess it is just a matter of time! Besides the key feature of this watch is rather its design then the functionality. It is a watch for people who are used to break the habits and have an expressed lifestyle!

This Fashion Watch looks like a tiny one, that’s why I wonder whether men would prefer it to a balkier one (ex. Rolex). Undoubtedly, the unique style of this watch will keep its owner at the center of attention! Though, I wouldn’t give one to my girlfriend and certainly wouldn’t take one for myself.

For some finding the perfect items to go into their home is fun.  Well if you’re looking to decorate a kids room, why not include that in the fun too?  Shouldn’t it be as well thought out and playful to mirror your child’s tastes?  If so then why put just a regular boring lamp in their room?  You might as well make it a part of the quirky style.   Well now you can pick up this cute all white elephant to sit on their night stand.  With its soft glow it’d make a great night light for those that still aren’t so great with the dark.

Since it is a soft white, it’ll likely go great with any color scheme that you happen to choose.  It would also be fine for either a boys or a girls room.  If you’re in love with elephants yourself, you could probably pass this off as just a bit of chic lighting in your living room.  Unfortunately, this lamp is a bit expensive.  It’s being sold for about $74 a piece.

Facebookexperia11 Some are calling Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X1 the “best Windows Mobile phone in business” and whether you believe that or not, you can’t argue that the handset’s on-screen panels make it unique. The large, touchable panels are akin to widgets or applications that sit atop the base Windows Mobile user interface. Part of me believes that the Xperia’s panels are not just for quick-and-easy access to useful apps. Since Microsoft doesn’t offer a centralized mobile application store as Apple and Google do, I’m wondering how large the downloadable Sony Ericsson software offering could get.

It actually gets a little larger today with the addition of three new panels:

Another CeBIT - Further Razer Novelties

Another CeBIT - Further Razer Novelties
This year’s CeBIT has been kindly offered some 2 square yards in Hanover, Germany. On this limited space hundreds of leading technology companies have managed to place their stands to display their newest accomplishments in their particular sphere of activity.

Macko 2.1 acoustic system from RazerThe Company Razer, which is known for its innovative ideas in the sphere of different PC peripherals and accessories, has presented the wide public its newest acoustic system. the Macko 2.1 is a 2.1 acoustic system, which, according to the statement of its developers, is the first ever sound system to support the THX Ground Plane technology and the THX Slot Speaker technology.

The two technologies are meant to improve the sound produced by the system. This improvement is being achieved by removing the sound artifacts, which are produced when the sound waves reflect from the table or any other surface. This way the Mako 2.1 sound system produces pure and high-quality 3D sound.

Mako 2.1 is based on the Bi-amplified system. This system features 2 amplifiers in every speaker, thus providing each of the two speakers with a total power of 100 Watt. In addition the set is complemented with a 100 Watt sub-woofer. This way the overall power of the Macko 2.1 is about 300 watt!!! The range of frequencies of this gadget is between 30 and 20,000 Hz. All these features make the Macko 2.1 the best choice for hardcore gamers and music fans: this acoustic system will satisfy their need in every acoustical detail they would ever want to hear.

So you see that the Macko 2.1 is quite a powerful piece, and according to the picture it is also a stylish one. I think it would look nice at my gradma’s fireplace. For listening relaxing music like Bach, Mozart… and shooting all those bad guys down in Counter-strike!

Unfortunately there was still no word the pricing of this sound system, but I guess it’ll be affordable, though not for many. As you know Razer wouldn’t make anything that you couldn’t describe as WOW, or OWESOME, or GREAT. These guys know what there doing.

So enjoy the sound and Cheers!

Check the new Asus Eee PC 1002HA on the right alongside the old S101, courtesy of Dave Zatz. And before you jump on me for calling the S101 “old”, just remember that it feels like Asus intros a new Eee model every 1.468 weeks. Therefore, if the model was seen a fortnight ago, it’s “old” by my definition.

Anyhoo… Mr. Zatz caught up with the new HA at a press event last night. Good timing too as LAPTOP Magazine has a hands-on just for the shell of it. Maybe they got the HA-HA model because it didn’t have a hard drive and couldn’t be used. Looks nice… not nice enough for me and my full-sized, correctly placed Right-Shift key requirement, but it’s still a looker thanks to the brushed metal finish. LAPTOP notices that it combines features from the older 1000H and the S101: the keyboard is from the former while the trackpad and single-look button are from the latter. Here in the U.S. the 1000H has apparently lived out it’s useful life and gets replaced by this newcomer for $499 on December 1. Based on my logic then, expect an even newer Asus Eee PC model around December 10th. ;)

Letterboxscreenshotsmall One of the Outlook views I sorely miss when on my MacBook Pro is the three vertical column view. It’s a personal preference to be sure, but I like having my folder list on the left, Inbox flowing down the middle and my preview pane on the right… especially when I’m using a widescreen monitor. SvenOnTech turned me on to Letterbox, a free Mail.app package that gives me this view on OS X.

I grabbed it last night and used it happily throughout the day today. On a smaller screen, say the 13.3-inch MacBook, I might opt for the standard view that puts the preview pane under the mailbox contents, but Letterbox is great on my 15-inch MacBook Pro and on the 24-inch widescreen external monitor I have connected.

This video interview and demonstration is the definitely the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while. Robert Scoble interviewed Andy Wilson from Microsoft Research and gets a hands on look at an impressive multi-touch solution. Here’s the thing though: there’s actually no touching involved!

Andy’s demonstration uses a $30 web-cam and a software solution that analyzes the view from above his keyboard. When the software can’t see the keyboard behind Andy’s hands because he’s completed a thumb and forefinger pinch gesture, it gives his hand control of the cursor. Essentially, it sees that his fingers have completed a circle due to the pinch. It can monitor for a second circle from his other hand and thus let him spread his hands apart to zoom in and out as well. Way cool and much more appealing to me personally than a multi-touch screen where I have to reach out further and make contact with a display.

Vintage vinyl CD packaging kit

Vintage vinyl CD packaging kit
Although the RIAA would doubtlessly disagree, I still find mix CDs to be a rather charming and thoughtful gift: since my parents have retired, I have tended to ask my father to make me CDs of tracks pulled from his extensive jazz collection over his natural inclination to buy me box sets. One problem with burnt CDs as gifts though is the presentation: it’s hard to make them truly look good, which is why this $17 Vintage Vinyl CD Packaging Kit appeals: sure, it’s just an attractive sleeve, but that makes all the difference. I really like the colors: they remind me of the Acme Novelty Library. Vintage Vinyl CD Packaging Kit [Fred Flare via Geek Sugar]…

I’ve been looking for a better web-based video chat service for a while. I’m not sure that Google’s new offering is going to take the place of Skype for me, but at least it’s another option out there. Rafe Needleman gave it a shot and felt that it used up a large amount of resources on his two-year old device. He also notes that it doesn’t offer comparable services that Skype currently offers, such as the ability to call out to landlines & mobiles, nor does it have any voicemail. I don’t see that as a huge issue for a first round product as it looks to be mainly an easy way to have a quick video chat with other Google contacts in a pinch and without downloading any software. Thoughts?

Peek email-only handset is Wired’s gadget of 2008
Peek, the thin email-only handset with a full keyboard, is Wired’s gadget of 2008. From Peek’s Amol Sarva: Wired Magazine has had a huge impact on me over the years; I remember the first issue I ever saw. I remember dreaming of doing something that might merit them writing about it. So we were honored when Wired’s editors selected Peek for their holiday wish list, and chose us to be featured in their tightly-curated Wired Store in New York this year. But….when we got December’s issue, it floored us. Peek is Wired’s #1 Gadget of 2008. I liked it a lot, too: see us buff it good. Real good. If you don’t have a BlackBerry, or otherwise don’t want a smartphone with an expensive contract, its super. There are just two serious issues: (1) deleting email is slow, making busy or spam-infested account management a pain, and (2) it does not have IMAP. But it does have instant messaging, thanks to a recent firmware upgrade. The story isn’t up yet at wired.com, it seems: you’ll have to catch it on the stands, the old-fashioned way!…

Seesaw Cellphone

When technology seams to reach its limits, design do makes a difference!

I was never able to guess how far can human mind go when it is about cell phone design. It seams that when it comes to cell phone design there is no much ground for experiments. Still some designers, such as Karsten Willmann, have the gut to step on the edge between reality and fantasy.

Seesaw Cellphone feels like a new expression of the cellular phone, like a man-to-man talk. At last its design talks in this terms. Though, I’m rather fond of creations such as Nao Tamura Cell Phone (one-piece transparent skin cover which makes you visualize colorful semi-conductor material), this one excites too with its fully packed construction, high precision and new approach.

At his turn, Karsten Willmann looks to be fond of concept design that combines high contrast OLED display and unbelievably thin forms. Additionally, the cell phone features a simple interface, comfortable numeric keypad (with soft keys) and a supporting ‘foot’ in the back-center part.

By the way, the design has already been criticized for this ‘foot’ as it seems to disrupt the harmony of the design. The irony is that the odd construction is exactly the thing that gave this cell phone its name!

It should be mentioned that the protruding bulge is not an accidental whistle of the designer. While the Seesaw phone is positioned on its back the screen stays angled which makes it more legible. Besides, the protruding bulge is hiding a camera and a flashlight. Needless to mention that such construction use to protect the surface of cell phones from scratches avoiding the full contact of the device with other surfaces.

Men’s loyalty towards high-end technologies, sophisticated materials, stylish design and devices’ functional character – isn’t to be questioned! As for me, this phone has it all. That is why I refer to Seesaw Cellphone as to a men’s one! It is like we speak the same language!

Ubuntulogo Late last week, Canonical announced plans to bring their popular Ubuntu desktop experience to ARM-based devices. Considering we just heard about Adobe partnering with ARM for Flash 10 on the low-powered chips, I thought this news was pretty timely. And like the Flash news, the targets for Ubuntu are the ARM Cortex A-8 and A-9 processors.

So what does this mean from a mobile perspective? First, ARM-based devices have the potential to fight back against the Intel Atom onslaught we’ve witnessed over the last six-months. From where I’m sitting there’s a rush to “middle ground” in terms of battery-efficient processing power. Traditionally, ARM devices have tended to be underpowered phones at one extreme, while Intel-based units represent the other end of the spectrum: higher-powered, but not nearly as power-efficient. The end-goal for both sides appears to be smack in the middle: a processor that can provide a solid user experience with support for basic programs, web interaction and rich multi-media playback all the live-long day. What form might that be? It could be a netbook, a web-tablet or a smartphone… who knows where this will all end up. We’ll have a better idea by the next quarter: in the press release focusing on ARM support, Canonical says that their desktop and netbook version of Ubuntu will become available in April of 2009.

Even more interesting is how Canonical is playing both sides of the fence. While they’re planning Ubuntu for ARM chips next year, they’re also a project partner with Intel. Anyone remember the Ubuntu Netbook Remix that’s tied to Intel’s Moblin project?

Ics_thumb I still don’t like how different carriers can muck about with Windows Mobile as much as they can. Yes, in some instances, they can add value to the user by doing so… at least, I keep telling myself that. Unfortunately, they can also add value to their bank accounts by removing access to features and then charging for similar functions. Case in point: sharing the Internet connection of your phone with your laptop. I’m still of a mind that if you’re paying for a 3G connection on your phone and want to use it as a tethered connection with a notebook, you shouldn’t have to pay extra for that. Of course, the reality is that here in the U.S., that’s considered a value-add service and you’re likely going to pay extra for the connection.

Enough of my personal rant on cellular capitalism. One of the XDA Developer forum members pointed out that removing a single registry key on his HTC Touch Diamond added a usable “Network Connection” option to the Windows Mobile Internet Sharing app which allows for native tethering. Even better: pocketnow says that this works on the Sprint Touch Pro as well as AT&T’s version of the same device, the recently arrived HTC Fuze. The Samsung Epix for AT&T may also benefit, but as is the case with any registry hack: you’ll have to try it… and not hold us accountable if it doesn’t work or you turn your phone into a brick.

To give this a shot, remove the ForceCellConnection registry key at [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings].

Merging Speed and Performance into One Gadget - ASUS Lamborghini VX2

Merging Speed and Performance into One Gadget - ASUS Lamborghini VX2
The second coming of the ASUS Lamborghini - half a sport car, half a laptop - almost happened, though it still might last a bit.

It’s been almost a year since first pieces of information about the first Lamborghini - the VX1 - reached us. If you look now at it and at the relation between the price and the number of positive feedbacks about this gadgets, you understand that people have realized its true value. Since the VX1 made it on the marker there have been sites posting reviews, comments and simple post about this gadget. This way the Lamborghini series from ASUS became extremely popular.

The popularity of the laptop might be explained not only by the brand name ASUS, but by the name of the series - Lamborghini. I mean there’s hardly a guy who wouldn’t, at least once, dream of driving a Lamborghini - the sportiest of all the sports cars. But ASUS made it possible to hold this wild beast in your hands, having it on your knees and pushing its keys.

So anyway, this popularity gave the creators of VX1 the idea that there should be another model in the Lamborghini series. It’s a series, after all, and a series must have at least two models in its range. So they have come up with the ASUS Lamborghini VX2.

The strategy of giving us information on this gadget was the same as in the case of VX1: it was like waving a nice, juicy bone in front of a dog’s nose. In other words: they gave us almost nothing.

Many of the gadget geeks were really disappointed with the history repeating (and I fully support them in this), but I guess it’s better than absolutely nothing. Now we have at least something to speculate on. I’ll be thinking how it’ll be, how fast, what will be it’s ‘interior’ and so on. You know, because at this point we know almost nothing about it… not more than there will be two external variants of the VX2: a traditional yellow a black, both with the Lamborghini logo, of course.

The only thing known about the interior is the CPU, which will be an Intel Centrino Duo. However, as much as I love Intel, I couldn’t say that it would match half of the Lamborghini powers. But it is absolutely the best candidate for the role of second fastest gadget!

After the launch of Vista all over the world, they stuff it everywhere; even the Lamborghini VX2 will have it onboard (why spoil such a gadget?)

Well, I guess we’ll catch up more on this topic later in this year, and I guess ASUS should organize a full time presentation this April at CeBITT 2007. And be sure to see me there, VX2, my boy!

Digital photo frames are dime a dozen, but some of them do come with added functionality such as Wi-Fi connectivity these days. The iGala wireless digital photo frame is one such device, allowing you to not only display your favorite digital memories across its 8″ touchscreen display in 800 x 600 resolution, you will also be able to use it to read your latest Gmail, check out the most recent news, traffic and weather information, while remaining connected to Flickr directly for easy album management thanks to the touchscreen display. Would you be willing to part with $239 for this, or do you think the Wi-Fi connectivity is pretty much redundant since most cell phones these days are already able to access your online photo albums and Gmail?
