Arkon offers car mount bundles for Mio Moov and Navman S-Series GPS units

Arkon will be making available premium upgrade aftermarket car mount bundles for both the Mio Moov and Navman S-Series GPS, and each of these mount bundles comprise of a custom cradle adapter as well as a location specific pedestal that is meant for use in the vehicle itself only.

Users can choose from a variety of different mounts that attach to the windshield, dash, cup holder opening, lighter socket, sun visor, and air vent locations. Arkon offers the most extensive lineup of car mounting solutions for use with Mio, Garmin, Magellan, TomTom, and other leading GPS makers.

If you’ve grown extremely attached to your GPS navigation system and can’t live (drive) without one, then I would suggest investing a small sum of money (anywhere from $17.95 to $29.95) on one of these puppies.

NASA admits computer viruses have made it into space

NASA admits computer viruses have made it into space
NASA has admitted that a computer virus was taken to the ISS in July. And it’s not the first time! The laptops infected with the virus were used to run nutritional programs and let the astronauts periodically send e-mail back to Earth. The laptops carried by astronauts reportedly do not have any anti-virus software on them to prevent infection. Once it has scooped up passwords and login names the Gammima.AG worm virus tries to send them back to a central server. It targets a total of 10 games most of which are popular in the Far East such as Maple Story, HuangYi Online and Talesweaver. Nasa is working with partners on the ISS to find out how the virus got on to the laptop in the first place. That’s certainly rather benign, but perhaps it’s time to start thinking of Norton, NASA. Although come to think of it, Norton could bring down the Space Station by itself. Computer viruses make it to orbit…

SanDisk jumps the speed bump with 30 MB/s SD cards
Digital cameras need fast memory cards, we all know that. Saving photos or video to a memory card is one of the most taxing things you can do and current SD card technology can have a hard time keeping up with that action. We’re seeing SD cards become more important…

Dual Touchscreen Nintendo DS in 2009?

Dual Touchscreen Nintendo DS in 2009?
My former Kotaku colleague Brian ‘LOL’ Ashcraft has plied mysterious “sources” in Japan with sake, reducing them to salaryman-style drunkenness. Plucked from their chaotic drunken ramblings? Some details about the next iteration of the Nintendo DS. According to Ashcraft, several industry sources outside of Nintendo claim that a new DS is being prepared… one with a top-mounted touch screen. The screens will also be slightly bigger. It’s plausible. The DS is still early in its lifestyle: exciting games are still coming out for the platform. A top-mounted touch screen would allow for new types of games to be developed while maintaining library backwards compatibility without a built-in emulator. I think the part of me that is struggling with this rumor is I simply don’t know what a top touch screen would add: the bottom touch screen is used meaningfully seldom enough as it is. On the other hand, Nintendo has a way of making seemingly useless gimmicks into system-defining backbones that make me feel foolish for my skepticism. Either way, we’ve got a lot of time to speculate: Nintendo won’t even announce these babies until 2009. Providing they aren’t just unicorns. Rumor: New Dual-Touchscreen Nintendo DS in early 2009 [Gizmodo]…

Atari’s Golden Years
Read Gamasutra’s 20-page history of Atari’s golden years. I’m four pages in, and already fascinated. It’s the disaster that never stopped making money — until it did stop making money. Here’s a delicious quote from Nolan Bushnell, regarding the policies of corporate owners Warner Bros., which thought it absurd to develop a superior replacement for the 2600 or allow anyone to develop software for their new line of home computers. “I felt that the computer system should not be a closed system, we needed to have third party software developers. I could see Steve Jobs out evangelizing, and Atari was saying that if you write software for the Atari computers, we will sue you. I just thought that was foolhardy. They were from the record world, where you sue people.” So they fired him, and new CEO Ray Kassar reorganized the company to match how he’d done business in the textile trade, implementing dress codes, canceling next-gen R&D projects, and describing the engineers that created the wealth as “spoiled brats.” Selling 2600s like socks was highly profitable until the market realized that games and consoles weren’t much like socks. Kassar was eventually kicked out after selling thousands of shares 23 minutes before the publication of an earnings report that wiped almost half of their value. German bureaucratic hell as art: media artist samples 70,000 songs, fills out paper forms for each

German bureaucratic hell as art: media artist samples 70,000 songs, fills out paper forms for each
German media artist Johannes Kriedler has created a 33 second composition that fairly samples an astonishing 70,200 separate songs… each and every one of which must be registered with GEMA (the German RIAA) with formal paper documentation. The tune itself is not very catchy, but that’s not the point: the art here is exposing the absurd paper hell of German bureaucracy. Help the tech industry pick an interesting new letter for marketing gadgets and stuff

Help the tech industry pick an interesting new letter for marketing gadgets and stuff
In the 1990s, E ruled. Derived from “E-mail,” and hence from “electronic,” everything was e-this and e-that and e-the-other. Then I took over, encroaching on its kingdom until E was all but vanquished. This symbolic victory was well-marked when Apple killed off the eMac in favor of a new low-end iMac. Forget the “underlying reasons” given: this was vowel war. But I too is boring. BBG reader Samf writes…. I’m done with I. I’m ready for another letter. I nominate p. We could have the pPod, the pBasket, the pBrain…whatever. It’ll be fun. C’mon marketing people. iStuff is so 2006. It’s time to make with the p! Make mine a p-p-p-p-Powerbook! But what are the other choices? Not all are equally good. Y turns a name into a question, sapping it of power. Z is hopelessly unfashionable. G is just plain naughty. Q has a steeple-fingered intellectualism best left to software. X is beating the memorial plaque that commemorates the fact there was once a dead horse at this location. Vowels are the obvious choices, but A (and with it H) still bears a certain cold-war connotation. O is frivolous, evoking internet memes (oMac! oRLY?). And U is too busy invading Poland. Would a number be superior? A nonalphanumeric character, perhaps? ♭! My vote goes with a dipthong. Euphone!…

Mooon+ Phone - Touchscreen and bluetooth headset in one!

Mooon+ Phone - Touchscreen and bluetooth headset in one!

At first I thought we have to deal with another touchscreen, high end mobile phone, but then I figured out that there is something special about this piece. The concept of this mobile phone – called the Mooon+ Phone – is made to surprise with a built-in Bluetooth Headset. Actually the idea is not a new one on the market, but I have to admit it is executed in a pretty original way.

I was talking about some predecessors of the idea. Well, one of them is WND Atom Van Gogh mobile phone. The one which has as a motto: ‘The first handset truly devoted to Wireless Earpiece users’. This exemplar has a built-in detachable Bluetooth Earpiece situated in the back part of the mobile phone.

The Mooon+ Phone we are discussing today is much more interesting to me. Besides the fact that I appreciate the wireless bluetooth headset, I must say that the sleek and clean design is incomparable to its predecessors. The Mooon+ Phone has got a really big and gorgeous touchscreen, metal accents (which make it something else than ‘a plastic toy’), a comfortable back clip for the belt (as I assume) and a digital camera. The Mooon+ Phone incorporates all a high end phone might need: camera which can be used for both still photography and video capture; music player which lets users play back music files in MP3 and other formats; etc.

Sunman Kwon – the designer of this masterpiece – has hit the point when decided to make the mouth piece detachable and turn it into a bluetooth headset. I also like the fact that the wireless Bluetooth headset is charging itself while it is not in use. Of course, it might not be the best idea, because it charges at mobile phone’s cost, which means it takes energy from your phone, but at some instance it might not be as important as it seams. It’s just a matter of choice!

They who have got the chance to hold the Mooon+ Phone in their hands presume that it is a combination between some sort of PSP Phone and iPhone (meaning the design rather then functionality). Others even give some formulas, such as: PSP (TM)+ iPhone(TM)+ Jawbone (TM)! What do you think about this?

So let’s resume, what makes this mobile phone brilliant:

  • The headset can be fixed to the phone, which prevents the accidental loss or the possibility to leave it at home or in your car.
  • You can always choose whether you want to be using the phone or the headset.
  • The built-in headset charger via the phone means one less damn cord/adapter to drag around.
  • The compatibility problem between the headset and the phone is solved

Well, gentlemen Hats Off for this piece!

Now, guys think and remember all the times when you either HAD your bluetooth headset with you (when you were in the city) and you didn’t need it, or NEEDED it and didn’t have it with you, or maybe it was dead. I give my vote for this concept and I think it will make big steps into the mobile phone mainstream. It really seams to me that it is a long-awaited solution to today’s mobile users.

Mundane Gadget Spam of the Day: Teradon School Bell Controller
From the sewer that is my inbox: Teradon Industries, which adds scare quotes around “smart solutions” in its own motto, would very much like you to consider buying an institution-class intercommunications system. Its system allows school staff to set bells from the computer station, play a school song, control the building’s announcement system, and summon pteranodons. Set your bells with tones from a computer. Have your School Song for the bell to begin the school day. Change your schedule from your computer. Time is corrected automatically from the Internet. You never have to change time on the bell system again. Intercom system programming can be monitored remotely. Make room calls and announcements from your telephone or master handset. Schools can now manage and control their intercom system. No more costly service bills and waiting for service. Product Page [Teradon]…

Micro-LED glow purse for elusive keys, pens, diaphragms

Micro-LED glow purse for elusive keys, pens, diaphragms
The Glow Purse is a gorgeously simple idea from designers Kawamura & Ganjavian: a hand bag with micro-LEDs lining the insides that begin to glow when you look for your keys. It’s just a concept, unfortunately, and this idea would really be most successful was some sort of easy, DIY mod, but there is a sort of purity of the fusing between fashion, practicality and technology here which can be appreciative by even the non-angora-wearing man’s man. iPhone 3G Telescope

iPhone 3G Telescope

You might remember a similar gadget which was released for the original iPhone. That’s old news. The new big boy in town is the iPhone 3G, so of course we’re all going to need a little update. While the iPhone 3G has been reported as having various networking snags, the new model continues to sell well. Even better than expected. So odds are that a nice chunk of you have upgraded.

If you had the iPhone Telescope for your original iPhone and loved using it to see clear images of objects in the distance, then the iPhone 3G Telescope is what you need for the upgraded Apple mobile phone. The 6x scope allows for an extra boost of sight-seeing juice with your iPhone 3G’s camera.

The iPhone 3G Telescope is optimized for the newer phone’s camera, complete with wide-angle shots, color reduction for a clearer shot, and an all-around effective way of curing your iPhone’s near-sightedness. The Telescope package even includes a neck strap so you can wear your iPhone like a traditional photographer.

The iPhone 3G Telescope seems like an awesome tool for members of the paparazzi and bird watchers who are in need of a speedy (supposedly) 3G network. While it might not be powerful enough to peer into the far reaches of the night sky, it sure can invade someone’s privacy pretty well. You can get your own from Brando for $19.

No idea on why this Indiana Jones Pocket Watch was released since it has never featured in any of Indy’s movies, but I guess when it comes to marketing muscle and merchandise, anything goes to snag that last dollar from you.
