MSI Wind hands-on at Crave

MSI Wind hands-on at Crave
CNET Crave has a gallery up and a hands-on of MSI’s Wind. With new cheapie subnotebooks on their way from Dell and Asus and the Eee already a success, it’s got to stand out—and it does… This could be the best mini laptop so far — it’s comfortable to use, has a good display, is super-affordable and promises great performance. We like: Screen; keyboard; value for money. We don’t like: Mouse trackpad could be bigger; no integrated 3G. Hands-On [CNET Crave]…

Roberta Ramme’s Wave Chaise

Roberta Ramme’s Wave Chaise
Roberta Ramme's Wave Chaise

Is the tendency to combine comfort and functionality an exclusively man’s point? Well, I guess not, because the very stuff you see in the picture is actually designed by a woman. The difference is that Roberta Rammê has also added beauty to comfort and compactness.

Roberta Rammê presents a wave designed chaise lounge. It is something that reminds the well known Latin saying “Omnia mea mecum porto” (I carry my all with me).

This complex furniture construction includes a wave-shaped bed featuring the latest ergonomics and technology tendencies. Do you want to watch TV or DVD? What about listening to your favorite CD? Want some comfort for reading or sleeping? Or maybe you need to surf the net or simply talk on the phone? YOU ARE WELCOME! This multifunctional chaise lounge is a all-in-one piece adapted to the high tech values.

I bet not only the youngsters will be inspired by the perspective to benefit from the compactness and handiness of this furniture. People who like permanent changes, or simply desire something conceptually new will welcome an innovation like this one.

Intense colors, original execution, beautiful apparel, comfortable and compact design are just a few advantages to mention. The idea is not just to make life easier and things more efficient; it is also about representing personality! You can have a wave chaise lounge that will characterize you and only you.

I have to admit that this kind of inventions are mostly efficient in countries where the access to technology is cheap and easy. Anyway, if you want it who can stop you from having it? Open your eyes, look wider to the world that surrounds you! Do you want to follow standards?

Freehand Wrist Storage For People With No Pockets

How much pocket space is too much pocket space? I’d say that when you reach the point that you’re filling the pocket of your standard jeans and are fully ready to make the fashionable pounce over to MC Hammer jump pants for that extra storage room.

There’s no need to suffer for fashion. Or have your fashion suffer for you. If you’re just too much of a manly man to grab a messenger bag and throw all of your junk in there, just because of it’s similarity to a purse, then you’re going to need a new method of on-the-go storage. Meet the Freehand.

You wear the Freehand on your wrist like you would a orthopedic brace for carpal tunnel syndrome (interestingly enough, you could wear it to provide an excellent excuse for missing work.) The Freehand provides you an extra pouch for your various junk, including a cellphone or house keys.

While it certainly isn’t the prettiest kid on the block, the $20 Freehand is a great alternative for that certain prideful male specimen who refuses to have the term “bag” uttered anywhere near his flannel button-ups and polyester lounge pants.

Pogo keeps Polaroid as Polaroid in the digital age …

Polaroid Pogo

The biggest challenge an instant print company like Polaroid would have in the digital age is how to keep it’s unique and interesting niche in an ever competitive market and not look like just another digital camera company. With Pogo, Polaroid may be doing just that.

At 8 ounces in size, the Pogo Pocket Printer prints tiny 2”x3” digital prints with sticker backings directly from a digital camera or even cellphone through an interesting process that is both wireless and inkless.

Pogo 2

Using Bluetooth, it can connect directly to your cellphone and print a full color image in about a minute. It can do so in an inkless fashion thanks to the Zink photo paper which keeps to the spirit of Polaroid instant print style through millions of tiny heat activated crystals which create the color image. The photos are waterproof, tear proof and smear proof. And only time will tell if they’re fade proof.

The Pogo printer works either with a rechargeable battery or AC adapter/Charger.

Retails for $150 and will be available exclusively through both Target and Best Buy later in the summer.

HAVA Mobile Player

HAVA Mobile Player

I think that we’re all getting to the point where we want to have complete control over our television watching experience. No more watching a television show whenever “they” want us to. I suppose that you could buy a TiVo or other DVR brand if you want that, but some want to take it step further and go mobile.

So why not have something on your mobile telephone that allows you to watch and control all of the home television channels and services from anywhere? I believe the Slingbox already does this service, but so does the HAVA.

The HAVA Mobile Player is a Symbian S60 optimized version of the HAVA Player that was originally designed to work with PCs and other mobile devices. The most outstanding feature is the control over DVR programming, and a user can even program it over a distance.

The HAVA Mobile Player is designed to work with Nokia’s two-way slider multimedia devices by allowing users to switch between portrait and full-screen landscape mode as they slide the screen. Channel switching and volume control is accomplished with the phone keys. Other controls include pause, rewind, skip of their television programs.

The HAVA is available for a free direct download in Q3 of 2008.

Laptop To Desktop - Transformers!
Not long ago people were inspired by laptops! The only problem with laptops was that they climbed down if compared to desktops. Today everything is different – laptops have caught up with desktops, when it is about specs, and exceeded them in terms of comfort and portability.

The comfort and the need to use a PC (mainly Internet) wherever you need it comes as a major priority and PC portability is a most wanted feature. On the other hand, there are people such as Yong-Seong Kim – the designer who considers that we have come to a point when we need it vice-versa: to transform a laptop in a desktop. (Watch out it’s from the “Transformers”!) The designer actually offers a really ingenious docking solution. Yong-Seong Kim’s solution is just a response to the existing demands on the gadgets market!

The very idea consists of a huge slot behind the LCD display, that allows you to slide your laptop in without too much effort. This makes it possible for you to use all data you have on your laptop accessing it as you’d do from a regular desktop. The very display of the laptop can also be used as a secondary screen, this time vertically.

I must be honest the concept sounds and looks pretty good, but it is rather more eye candy than practical.

The question I ask myself is – how am I going to use it? The answer is ‘just the same as I’d have done with my regular laptop’. So, why do I need it then?

Throwing away my cynic moods, I can admit the fact that this creation is meant for those who want it work FANCY, but it is less attractive to those who want it JUST work!

By the way, some tend to somehow compare the concept of the “laptop-transformers” with the Palm Folio. Well, for me it’s not really like that. See for yourself whether it suits you or not!

Artist draws his face on the world with GPS and DHL
As a project, this campaign by artist Erik Nordenankar and DHL is quite clever: ship a small package with a GPS locator around the world to geo-map a global self-portrait of the artist. But I’d be more impressed if DHL hadn’t been in on the project: some of the circuitous Baltic curlicues necessary to etch-a-sketch Nordenankar’s bed head hair are simply too implausible without having a special delivery plane devoted to the task. Seesaw Cellphone

Seesaw Cellphone

When technology seams to reach its limits, design do makes a difference!

I was never able to guess how far can human mind go when it is about cell phone design. It seams that when it comes to cell phone design there is no much ground for experiments. Still some designers, such as Karsten Willmann, have the gut to step on the edge between reality and fantasy.

Seesaw Cellphone feels like a new expression of the cellular phone, like a man-to-man talk. At last its design talks in this terms. Though, I’m rather fond of creations such as Nao Tamura Cell Phone (one-piece transparent skin cover which makes you visualize colorful semi-conductor material), this one excites too with its fully packed construction, high precision and new approach.

At his turn, Karsten Willmann looks to be fond of concept design that combines high contrast OLED display and unbelievably thin forms. Additionally, the cell phone features a simple interface, comfortable numeric keypad (with soft keys) and a supporting ‘foot’ in the back-center part.

By the way, the design has already been criticized for this ‘foot’ as it seems to disrupt the harmony of the design. The irony is that the odd construction is exactly the thing that gave this cell phone its name!

It should be mentioned that the protruding bulge is not an accidental whistle of the designer. While the Seesaw phone is positioned on its back the screen stays angled which makes it more legible. Besides, the protruding bulge is hiding a camera and a flashlight. Needless to mention that such construction use to protect the surface of cell phones from scratches avoiding the full contact of the device with other surfaces.

Men’s loyalty towards high-end technologies, sophisticated materials, stylish design and devices’ functional character – isn’t to be questioned! As for me, this phone has it all. That is why I refer to Seesaw Cellphone as to a men’s one! It is like we speak the same language!

Samsung develops fastest MLC-based SSD with SATA

I guess it is pretty easy to lay claim to being the fastest or largest device in the industry today, if you throw in plenty of other criteria into the mix. Take for example, Samsung Electronics who have placed their hands on both “fastest” and “largest” superlatives with the new 2.5″, 256GB multi-level cell (MLC) based solid state drive (SSD) using a SATA II interface. This high capacity flash storage device was unveiled at the fifth annual Samsung Mobile Solution Forum, and is also touted to be the thinnest drive with the largest capacity to be offered with a SATA II interface. I wonder just how many other SSDs fall under a similar category in order to go up against Samsung’s offering.

This new SSD will feature a sequential read speed of 200MB/s and sequential write speed of 160MB/s, making this MLC-based Samsung offering approximately 2.4 times faster than a standard hard disk drive. It also measures a mere 9.5mm thick - or should I say slim in this case, with dimensions of 100.3mm x 69.85 mm. When officially released, this 256GB SSD will also hold the honor of being the largest capacity SSD from the global market leader in SSD sales, dropping the argument that adopting SSDs in a computer or other equivalent device comes with the sacrifice of space, although cost has not yet been calculated into the equation.

According to Jim Elliott, vice president, memory marketing, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc, “With development of the 256GB SSD, the notebook PC is on the brink of a second stage of evolution. This change is comparable to the evolution from the Sony Walkman to NAND memory-based MP3 players, representing an initial step in the shift to thinner, smaller SSD-based notebooks with significantly improved performance and more than ample storage. ”

Photojojo Mac keyboard editor hotkey stickers overlays
Photojojo is selling these rubber, stick-on overlays for Mac laptop and desktop keyboards with hotkey information for Photoshop, Aperture, or Final Cut Pro. They make new keyboards look like the dedicated editing suite keyboards of yore. They’re $30 for laptop versions, $40 for desktop — a lot of scratch for fancy stickers. Update: Amit from Photojojo corrects me:One quick note: They’re not actually stickers! They’re thin, flexible rubber overlaps, custom-fitted to each of five or so different kinds of Mac keyboards. They don’t stick on (they’re no adhesive) but they stay on because they’re molded to fit the keyboard shape. They’re also washable and keep crud from getting under your keys.Sorry about that! Samsung presents it’s FESTIVAL Plasma TV

Samsung presents it’s FESTIVAL Plasma TV
Samsung, with another “world’s first”!

The new “Cannes” Plasma TV is an absolutely new, or maybe not so absolutely, TV set from Samsung - probably the world’s leader in electronics and in being the world’s first manufacturer to always make world’s first gadgets.

What does it have what other TVs from Samsung don’t? Well, first of all, and I guess the most important, is the girl standing next to it. She’s very pretty and is a very important part of the TV set itself, because if she’s gone, no one would ever need the “Cannes” Plasma TV from Samsung. Just kidding! But I really like the girl though, I guess I’ll write her a letter if I find her address by some miracle.

Samsung's So let’s see what the manufacturer himself - Samsung Electronics Ltd. - says about this nifty gadget. I mean the TV, not the chick! They say that among the technologies worth to mention the most worth-to-mention are the Ultra Daylight, Real Motion Studio and the Natural True Color technology. How they improve the quality and the sales of this TV, I could only guess, but it sounds cool and it is always a MUST when announcing a novelty: you should always think of some cool words to name the new technologies. But some of the upper mentioned are described further on.

Other sources say that the TV has an ability to change the contrast of the image displaying, in accord with the time of the day (or lighting). For example in an absolutely dark room the display would adapt itself to a contrast ratio of 15.000:1, whereas a bright room would sink this ratio to 1.000:1.

This fluctuation of the contrast ratio is achieved thanks to the technology already mentioned in that worth-mentioning category. I’m speaking about the Ultra Daylight technology.

The other innovation in this gadget - the Real Motion Studio technology - has taken care of a crystal clear image. Due to this technology the image is being cleared of the blurred outlines and an unclear text.

If already interested, I’m glad! Because I am too. As for the place to buy the gadget - can’t tell you anything. However the price is something I’m able to share.

As far as I know, the “Cannes” Plasma TV was issued in a series of models. I won’t use my blog’s space to tell you all the prices, but some of them are: about $ 2.125 for the 42-inches version of the TV; almost $ 3.500 for the 50-inches wide “Cannes” Plasma TV in your room; and about $ 9.400 - for the model with an absolutely clear image, I mean the High-Def “Cannes”.

If you find this beauty somewhere around, please let me know. I’m dying to connect to it my good old PS2 (and maybe even try it out with the PS3 sometimes, when it gets cheaper than a space shuttle).

P.S.: And guys, don’t focus on the picture, because it’s hypnotizing. It’s got everything a man needs: a wide-screen TV; a hot girl next to it (and she’s not yelling at you) and a snack bar on the background. This is disturbing!

Rollable boom box for ghetto blasting on the go

Rollable boom box for ghetto blasting on the go
I rather like this rollable MP3 boom box crafted by Israeli designer Inbal Tyagi. Normally, I’d even be inspired to write something about it. But after reading the astute analysis of the device by Atul over at Gizmowatch, I’ve simply resigned myself to blockquoting another writer’s literary genius. After all, how could I possibly top this? Who shouts coz I am Kazaam when he jumps out of the boom box? The Jennie Shaquille O’Neal was the one who gave me a fair insight into the meaning of the word. *emphatic nodding* Exactly. It’s the effortless insight of a literary maestro with his finger on the pulse of the human condition. I think we all know exactly what Atul’s talking about, having struggled but failed our entire lives to translate this exact same emotional vibrato into words. What could I add? It’s perfect. ‘Nuff said, really. Boombox on Wheels [Site via Gizmowatch]…

Ego’s purse-like fashion laptops
The Ego Lifestyle is a luxury laptop designed to simulate the look of a hand bag when closed. It certainly looks swank: the handmade leather skins are easily swapped from alligator to leopard print according to your ensemble, for example. And even the specs are pretty nice: there’s a real machine here. The price, however, is jaw dropping: over $4,000 for the basic model. But let’s face it… when the official website constantly bombards you with glamor shots of millionaire fashionistas carrying their purse-like luxury laptops while Indian bellhops struggle behind them to lug 200 pounds of luggage up to the penthouse suite, you know they’re marketing exclusively to twats. MEGA City - Electric car

MEGA City - Electric car

Not that I’m a green related guy, but I always was interested in the alternative sources of energy. So this is why this Mega City Electrical Car has caught my attention at all.

History. The Mega City is an all electric car designed and built in France. (This is probably an advantage for those who like European cars). It is said to be exclusively available from the NICE Car Company.

Kitting. This electrical car usually comes as two-seater, 2+2 model or enterprise model designed for commercial use.

Features:

  • The car possesses exclusively 100% recyclable body
  • Clean, safe and fun transport mean for average people as well as for commercial agents
  • Environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional car (no CO2, no toxic emissions, very quiet)
  • The range provided by the NICE Car Company includes an electric car, electric truck (Multitruck II)and a small range of electric bikes (Vectrix) and scooters
  • No congestion charge, free road tax and free parking (in some cities such as London)
  • Cost effective, saves up to £7000 per year
  • MEGA City is able to lead the way with a range of up to 50 miles and a top speed of 40 miles per hour.

Thoughts: I’d probably want a car like this one just considering its really great specs concerning the environment - which is a very important advantage for me. But, I guess United States (for example) are not ready for cars like these ones. People in USA are not ready to give up speed!!! They are used to powerful cars, and power can be obtained only using fuel.

Anyway, it seams a quite right solution for mega cities. It is quite compact and safe, featuring a perfect vehicle for everyday travel to work and for shopping. Though, it looks not appropriate for long distance travelling by car, because you’ll need some recharging every 50 miles and you’ll reach the maximum speed of 40 mph which is not enough for high ways. It is the matter of your choice! I opt for electrical cars only in the range of mega cities!

Merging Speed and Performance into One Gadget - ASUS Lamborghini VX2
The second coming of the ASUS Lamborghini - half a sport car, half a laptop - almost happened, though it still might last a bit.

It’s been almost a year since first pieces of information about the first Lamborghini - the VX1 - reached us. If you look now at it and at the relation between the price and the number of positive feedbacks about this gadgets, you understand that people have realized its true value. Since the VX1 made it on the marker there have been sites posting reviews, comments and simple post about this gadget. This way the Lamborghini series from ASUS became extremely popular.

The popularity of the laptop might be explained not only by the brand name ASUS, but by the name of the series - Lamborghini. I mean there’s hardly a guy who wouldn’t, at least once, dream of driving a Lamborghini - the sportiest of all the sports cars. But ASUS made it possible to hold this wild beast in your hands, having it on your knees and pushing its keys.

So anyway, this popularity gave the creators of VX1 the idea that there should be another model in the Lamborghini series. It’s a series, after all, and a series must have at least two models in its range. So they have come up with the ASUS Lamborghini VX2.

The strategy of giving us information on this gadget was the same as in the case of VX1: it was like waving a nice, juicy bone in front of a dog’s nose. In other words: they gave us almost nothing.

Many of the gadget geeks were really disappointed with the history repeating (and I fully support them in this), but I guess it’s better than absolutely nothing. Now we have at least something to speculate on. I’ll be thinking how it’ll be, how fast, what will be it’s ‘interior’ and so on. You know, because at this point we know almost nothing about it… not more than there will be two external variants of the VX2: a traditional yellow a black, both with the Lamborghini logo, of course.

The only thing known about the interior is the CPU, which will be an Intel Centrino Duo. However, as much as I love Intel, I couldn’t say that it would match half of the Lamborghini powers. But it is absolutely the best candidate for the role of second fastest gadget!

After the launch of Vista all over the world, they stuff it everywhere; even the Lamborghini VX2 will have it onboard (why spoil such a gadget?)

Well, I guess we’ll catch up more on this topic later in this year, and I guess ASUS should organize a full time presentation this April at CeBITT 2007. And be sure to see me there, VX2, my boy!

High-Rise Sprinkler Unleashes The Aqua Fury On Your Lawn

High-Rise Sprinkler Unleashes The Aqua Fury On Your Lawn

highrise.jpg

You probably already know the lawn sprinkler systems are sometimes more of a hassle than they are a solution. Your typical sprinkler reaches only a few inches from the ground, spraying water in a 15 foot radius or so. The problem is that the small stature of these sprinklers can cause some major issues if there happens to be obstacles in the way, such as trees or shrubs.

The High-Rise Sprinkler, available from Sporty’s Tool Shop is the one shot solution for dousing your entire lawn, even if there happens to be a wall of shrubs in its way. No longer will you have to deal with that unattractive patch of dead greenery which plagues your lawn with ugliness.

The High-Rise Sprinkler guarantees a range of 5000 square feet, ensuring that every inch of your lawn, and probably every inch of your driveway and home, gets doused with a life-providing spray of H20. When not in use, the sprinkler can be folded into a compact 22″ for easy storage.

The $50 High-Rise Sprinkler might resemble a camera tripod, but is made especially with lawn obstacles in mind, features an adjustable 100′ diameter for reaching any length of your grass (providing you don’t live on some lofty estate or you’re trying to water a golf course.) Grab your own to unleash the pure aquatic fury on your lawn.
