Take the phone out of a pocket, unfold the screen, and have a 5 inch display to check email or news websites. Then simply fold it up and put it back in a pocket. Then when it is break time, take it out and read an ebook while relaxing.
This gadget has not yet been released, but has been reported that it is in production. It will be released in the middle of 2008. Competition will be fierce with the Apple iPhone, and the Amazon’s Kindle book reader already having a stake in the market.
The advantage that the Readius has over its competition is the long life battery that will compare to the ebook readers, as well as a large display, yet the size and weight of a cellular device. The price for it will likely end up in the neighborhood of a high-end cellular phone, making it attainable by many.
Internet connection with the Readius will use high data speeds on the current mobile networks. This will allow more competition for the iPhone by allowing owners to boost data usage. Any data created by the user within their PC can be pushed to the device each time it is updated, so the latest podcasts and blog feeds will be available immediately.
The ease of use will possibly appeal to much greater audience than the 50 button versions of devices. The mere 8 buttons used on the Readius simplify the operation, and appeal to a wider range of consumers.
The technology promises to meet standards of current mobile phones, as well as ebook readers. The screen that is the size of two business cards can be folded or unfolded as needed. The option for this gadget to provide two major functions in one gives it a clear edge over the competition in both categories. That advantage will only hold, though, if the quality truly does meet the standards of the current available devices. As seen with the introduction of MP3 players in cellular phones, the quality is what makes the trend. It will remain to be seen if this product has the ability to do the same.
