Epos’ latest gadget, the Digital Pen and USB Flash Drive, is easily the gadget of the month. The Digital Pen allows you to go to meetings, school, work and record your notes. It accepts standard mini ink refills. The USB Flash Drive records every page of your notes so that it can later be converted to text on your PC. The Digital Pen is able to do the same for charts or artwork. The USB Flash Drive can also function as a normal Flash Drive and store music, video and other file formats as well. Like the OCR software included with scanners, the Digital Pen’s software is not yet 100% accurate but it is accurate enough to save you hours of re-typing information.
The Digital Pen weighs 16 grams and it is only slightly larger than a regular fountain pen. One downside with the Epos Pen, is that it does not come with rechargeable batteries. It uses two watch batteries which provide more than 40 hours of use. Sensors in the pen activate it only when you are actually writing with it. The Digital Pen begins transmitting ultrasonically. The USB Flash Drive connects to the edge of your paper like the clip of a clipboard. Epos is to be applauded for the efficiency of their product design. The USB Flash Drive can easily be connected to just about any form of paper. LED lights on the drive assure you that it is receiving your transmissions. Each time you turn your page, sensors within the USB Drive records that the new data needs to go on a new page. The Digital Pen includes software that deletes blank pages when it’s connected to a PC.
Epos’ Digital Pen and USB Flash Drive costs $129. This is equivalent to many of the Wacom tablets and the Digital Pen is far superior. You can do almost anything that you could do on a Digital Tablet with the Digital Pen. Furthermore with the Digital Pen you do your sketching on a true artist table instead of on an office desk. EPOS includes the software for running the Digital Pen on the USB Drive. This makes it easy to use the Digital Pen on any Windows 2000, XP or Vista computer.
