Redemption for the PSP?
The Play Station Portable is Sony’s valiant attempt to knock off Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance SP off its throne as the king of portables. Sony failed. The Play Station Portable is a good machine but it is plagued with the problem of trying to cram too much into a small package. It is nice that you can play music and watch movies with your portable gaming console but you can get several video and MP3 players for the $249 that you shell out for a Play Station Portable. Gamers want a good game machine first and foremost. Everything else is just gravy. Sony’s succeeds with giving players gravy but not much meat. The PSP is an awkward machine to play. The tiny device is cluttered with tiny controllers that often gives players finger cramps. Although its screen is larger than the Game Boy Advance SP, the Play Station Portable battery life is a joke lasting at best three hours before needing a recharge. Nyko latest gadget, the Charger Grip dramatically extends the PSP’s battery life and addresses some of the PSP’s awkward handling.
Nyko’s Charger Grip attaches itself to the base of the Play Station Portable. This dramatically improves the grip for the PSP making it similar to a standard Play Station 2 controller. Nyko’s grips are ergonomically designed for a comfortable gaming experience. A comfortable console is one that you will play for hours on end. This is a core strength for Nintendo’s entire Game Boy line. Nyko’s Charger Grips also can slide together when they are not in use. Nyko’s Charger Grip only has one major negative - it can be slightly wobbly during extensive game play. Players will need to adjust for this.
Nyko’s Charger Grip is not only comfortable but it adds six to eight hours of additional game play. Even better than the great improvement in play time on the PSP, Nyko’s charger can be recharged simultaneously with the Play Station Portable. This is solid design at its best. It does take longer to charge the pair of devices but both can be recharged at night. You will be ready for another full day of gaming excitement with day break. The Charger Grip retails for $29.99.
