J.Lo and USB - A Winning Combination?

Gresso, a small company from the former Soviet Union, partners with Jennifer Lopez to create a line of “luxury” USB drives. The line is titled - “Adam & Eve.” Gresso’s “Adam&Eve” drives have a maximum storage capacity of 1GB - tiny by today’s standards.

Gresso has designed their drives to be wearable - each drive is stylishly designed as an object that will adorn your clothing. Buyers can choose from an apple, a cross and a classic rectangle. The “Adam&Eve” drives are made out of mahogany and African Blackwood and are decorated with 14-carat gold and white Swarovski crystals. Remember this is a USB drive that we are talking about and not a piece of fashion jewelry. Most technologically skilled and gifted people are not runway models. Gresso’s “Adam&Eve” drives seem to be targeting an unknown section of the computer market.

Gresso can be given credit for their commitment to the new “Adam&Eve” USB product line. They have even arranged to create a “special edition” of the “Adam&Eve” USB Drive. BMG Music Entertainment has authorized Gresso to include Jennifer Lopez’s latest album “Brave” to come packaged with the special edition “Adam&Eve” drives. The Special Edition USB Drives will come with J.Lo’s signature and the album name etched on the drive.

Gresso can cut their highly-probable losses from the “Adam&Eve” drive. They can change their target market. If Gresso packages the “Adam&Eve” drive as a J.Lo exclusive jewelry line, they would sell like hot cakes. - to J.Lo music lovers and some odd jewelry collectors. Don’t even mention the USB drive capacity as a feature - focus on the included album “Brave.” Ask BMG to use its marketing muscle to get the “Adam&Eve” jewelry in all music markets. This is how to make lemonade out of a true “lemon” of a product.

For the serious and not-so serious computer users, J.Lo and Gresso make a perfect combination - a losing one. A Custom USB drive is an innovative idea. Customizing them as “fashion jewelry” is not a good application for the idea. The “Adam&Eve” Flash Drive under delivers in features and drowns in an ocean of hype. It will only succeed if BMG Music delivers the “Adam&Eve” line, with all of its considerable marketing muscle, into the arms of music lovers.
