Rock Band - Bringing Video Games into the Mainstream!!!
Despite its funny name, Nintendo’s WII has revolutionized gaming outselling both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. WII attracted whole new populations segments to the video game market. Video Games widened customer base clamored for games that they could play. Rock Band is the latest game designed for the masses and not elite video gamers.
Like other industries, video games use to suffer from vicious inbreeding. Games were consistently made so hard to play that you either had to be an “elite gamer” or purchase an expensive guide book to enjoy the game. As a result, games were focusing on a shrinking population segment. Rock Band, a gadget packed game for Xbox 360, is designed so “normal” people can play.
Each game system comes with a unique set of controllers. This requires gamers to constantly master a new controller set as we get the latest consoles. Not only do your fingers have to stretch in complicated patterns but you are required key combinations to make your character perform advance moves. Non-gamers wouldn’t last two minutes try to play a game like Halo, Worlds of Warcraft or City of
Beyond real world controllers, Rock Band allows players to be Rock Stars. A lot of people are not excited to be orcs or superheroes or want to pilot a tank or a spaceship. People know what a rock star is and many have played an air guitar, sung into a hair brush or drummed on a tabletop. Rock Band allows you to do that to 40 famous rock songs with more downloadable online. The game allows you to either play as a soloist or rock out with a bunch of friends either in the living room or virtually through the internet.
Rock Band will not be embraced by the video game elite. They made Halo 3 the number one game. However, everyday people made Rock Band’s predecessors “Guitar Hero III” and “Guitar Hero 2″ sell 4.61 million copies for the Playstation 2. These same people make Rock Band the number one game for 2008.
